Power of the Portrait

Autumn is here. The nights are getting chilly and it’s time take a step back and understand more what’s behind your interest in art - about your own creative drivers. Whether that is the art you like or the art you create. I have drawn on over 20 years of experience as a communication facilitator to share with you what I know about what motivates us to act, to create and how we communicate.

I have already released the first 2 videos in the Creative Driver Styles series and the third and final comes on Thursday this week.

Video 1 Watch Now - What’s behind the message?

Video 2 Watch Now - Four Driver Styles

Video 3 What’s Behind the Artist? Released this Thursday at 12:30 noon - What’s Behind the Artist? This link will take you to the Thursday event.

Straight after the Thursday release of Video 3, I will host a LIVE session on Facebook (Thursday Lunchtime Live 12.30) to discuss what we learned and how you see yourself and other artists styles.  You can ask questions and we can look at what the styles might clarify about the drivers of art we love.

The artists I show in video 3 are all portrait artists.  As pack animals our brains are wired to be attracted to people more than anything else.  That’s why portraits like; The Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci, Andy Warhols’ Marilyn, Van Gogh’s self portraits, Vermeer’s Girl with a pearl earring, Edvard Munch’s The Scream, Picasso’s Weeping Woman, are all so familiar.

If you are interested in portraits I have put together a bonus Video for you “The Power of the Portrait”.

You can download it here: Power of the Portrait

In this video I explain to you how the amazing power of the portrait was opened up to me and how I have used portraits to honour people, cherish the living and the dead, raise funds, create conversations about topical issues and connect with so many people all through my paint brush. I also invite you to learn more about portraiture too so you can harness the power of the portrait.

Also on Thursday I will be opening the enrolment of How to Paint a Portrait.  If you have ever dreamed of capturing the essence of a person in a portrait - now is the time to have a go.  When you experience the joy people have at seeing a portrait of themselves or their loved ones, you will understand more about just how powerful portraits are.

I have made a step by step course where you can watch me create a whole portrait and paint along with me. We start on May 5th. It is an online course you can do in your own time, in your own space. If you have wondered about painting the children in your family, bringing topical issues to life or even a self portrait; I’ll show you how to have the skills, knowledge and confidence to make it happen. You can paint portraits you love. I’ll show you how.
